Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall

93850005 The open spaces found at this giant memorial hall make it the ideal place to try out those new rollerblades, play badminton or just take an evening stroll. The fact that it is vehicle free just adds to its charm. Inside the many art galleries that highlight Taiwan's history, regularly hold exhibitions and events. This cultural venue is also the place to enjoy the changing of the guards, which is an incredible demonstration of military precision. Make sure you get a good viewing position for this grand event.

Martyrs' Shrine

Rocn_guard_martyrs_shrine This is a really interesting memorial in a leafy suburb of Taipei. Worth visiting for the changing of the guard, which happens roughly on the hour, in the mornings is a bit crowded. Not really a  place  for tourism but it might help you to be in touch with your inner peace ;)

Wenshan

Wenshan Wenshan is a district of Taipei, home of the Taipei Zoo and many tea plantations. As you can imagine, a visit to the zoo is one of the many activities to do in this beautiful area, specially for the fact that animals are not confined to cages, but allowed to roam freely in open paddocks. Also you might want to check out the Jingmei Night Market, full of small street vendors and shops selling all kind of items, like various snack foods, clothes, and accessories.

Sun Moon Lake

Sun_moon_lake_galleryfull Sun Moon Lake is located in the center of Taiwan. It is one of the most well known spots in Taiwan, and is a favourite stop on the tour bus circut. Many many tourists from Japan and China head here as well as locals. It is cooler in the summer then other areas of Taiwan. While it is considered to be one of Taiwans most treasured places, personally I would say if you are seeking to ... get away and see nature, this may not be the place for you. You may found it over crowded, a bit over developed and not my first choice of a place to visit in Taiwan. Weekends are packed.
